When do I get my turn?

Off and running getting everything on your to do list, keeping on track with your resolutions and taking care of everything for everyone else. Don’t you sometimes just want to hit the pause button. Like in a commercial when the person on the screen looks around at the messy kitchen and the Mr. Clean  walks in and it is transformed into a lemony-fresh calm and clean kitchen.

Imagine if you could find the quiet in you, if you could connect with the your inner self and stop the hustle; find some inner stillness. You are probably thinking, “sure that would be great and I don’t have any time for me there is too much to do”. Our days are filled with movement and noise from the time we wake up to our heads hit the pillow. I agree we make our schedules and they are hectic and busy. And, I know that finding a little quiet, to tune out for a few minutes can support your inner energy levels, create calmness and focus when you feel you are on the treadmill and give you a sense of purpose and promise – inner strength. Take it slow at first. Here are some ideas to get you started. One, find a way to insert some breathing in the morning before you get out of bed. You can use time to breath in the morning, wrap your arms around the new day before you begin to think about what you have to do and create some order to what may be a crazy day. Two, find a path near your workplace to take a 10 minute walk and quiet your day. Leave your phone behind or turn it on silent; unless you want to listen to a quieting podcast or music. And, no monkey-brain, straying off-course and taking yourself from what is in your present for you. Third, and I feel is the most important, schedule a time just for you. You may want to start with 10 minutes two days a week and increase the frequency and time to do mindful mediation, restorative stretching, reading and just being. You may also want to add something green into your color scheme. While green symbolizes nature is is also a beautiful and calming color that can bring harmony into your life and release anxiety.
