Who’s in charge of your FITNESS ?
Who is in charge of your fitness and wellness?! Is it the gadget on your arm counting how many steps, classes and calories they are taking, doing or eating?
As a yoga therapist and instructor, personal trainer, life coach, nutritional counselor and registered nurse, I am here to tell you that keeping up with your gadget may not be what you need. Don’t get me wrong; if the bracelet on your wrist or app on your phone is giving you the motivation to get off your bun, keep it up. However, when it tells you when to stand, move, breath and even compete against others, it is time to ask yourself what the @!$% is going on here.
The other day I was playing golf with my sisters and we were all wearing an Apple watch. Playing the same course how was it that we all had different steps (miles walked), calories, and time exercising? While I am sure there is some scientific technological answer, I would prefer to rely on me to determine the best workout schedule and set of activities to participate in for how ever long works for me than to rely on a device to determine my day. Get up and get moving; pace yourself, determine what exercises you like and activities you want to try and those that just don’t work for you. And, enjoy yourself while you are moving. Take the challenge to use your gadget to monitor not dictate. Let me know how it works for you!
